Here are my simulated end-of-season RPI ranks using actual results of games played through September 4 and simulated results of games not yet played. As a reminder, for all games not yet played, the simulation assigns game results based on pre-season ratings I assigned to teams, as adjusted for home field advantage. Thus for future games, the simulated results do not reflect that some teams so far have done better or worse than expected in relation to their assigned pre-season ratings. In a few weeks, when I substitute actual current RPI ratings for the assigned pre-season ratings, the simulated future results will reflect how teams actually have done so far this year.

There is some really bad rankings in this chart, good try-but not accurate. I would include more west coast teams in the top 35 including members of the WCC- A conference with champions, that other Power 5 conferences never have accomplished.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting!
DeleteYou are absolutely right there are some far off rankings. Really, to understand what these are, you need to go back and read earlier posrs about what these rankings are and are not and where they come from. As I have written, they are just one way of producing rankings and should be looked at together with other rankings and with a big grain of salt.
The rankings will get better as the season progresses and will get closer and closer to where the RPI rankings will end up.
PS - I am a WCC fan! I think that by end of season, we will see more WCC teams than usual in the Top 60. I focus on that group, since all the NCAA Tournament at large selections will come from that group (actually, the Top 57), if the Committee follows its historic pattern.
